Forbína

2024, Marquetry for Forbína bar,
Illustrations made by Michal Bačák,

Concept by Studio Olgoj Chorchoj

A remarkable part of the Forbína bar interior, located in close proximity of the National Theatre in the centre of Prague, comprises the unique marquetry, nowadays found rarely.

Every detail in the bar plays very well with the other like a real theatrical performance. But we do feel like in a theatre play thanks to its set piece – marquetry on the walls.

The process of creating a marquetry was quite complex and at the same time very interesting. From CNC cutting of the rosewood veneered panels, through laser cutting and fitting of the different types of very thin veneers, to sticking, sanding, cleaning and at the end oiling.

Marquetry took more than 1 400 hours to make. Creating almost 100 sqm of walls comprised of 65 rosewood boards.

If you wonder how the process of creating it looked like, scroll down for the techniques. The final marquetry can be seen at the Bar, and we recommend pairing it with a drink, you will be amazed.
